Today we will be looking at gamification in fitness. This will range from gamification in personal training as well as in a building.

However sadly working out itself seems to become more difficult because the physical reward isn’t instantly obvious. Combine this with the fact that working out is incredibly tiring and this makes gamification helpful for people trying to work out.

Gamification works for the younger generations. They have grown up with games. Toddlers play games on tablets. Teenagers play games on their PC, consoles, tablets and mobile phones.  Engaging the younger generations through gamification seems easy. However does gamification work for all generations? The older generations seem to frown upon the amount of gaming that the younger generations do. They believe it is a waste of time.

A lot has been said about gamification, but why does it work? This is a question that is quite easy to answer and lets get into more detail below:

The reason Gamification is so effective is because there is a certain trigger in our brain that gives us a great feeling when we accomplish something. This trigger is called Dopamine. The effects of Dopamine are seen everywhere. Jogging is a good example, the feeling of your body being pushed to its limits and yet still being able to go on.

There are plenty of other ways this happens as well: Getting a good mark back, having a great conversation, feeling in love. There are many ways to feel this. Continue reading →

Everyone loves being the best at something or trying to find out as much as possible about a certain topic. This all has to do with our need to be recognized.
The question now is, how can Gamification step into that realm?

Gamification at its earliest form was all about badges and stamps. Of course it has developed tremendously since, but badges still serve a great purpose. On websites badges show to other people what you achieved. This distinguishes you from others and therefore the player will feel special. How do you implement these properly?
